Lark Pien

As a child, Lark Pien read The Peanuts at her Sunset Gma’s, Old Master Q at her Chinatown Gma’s, and The Uncanny X-Men at her cousins’ house in the Richmond district. When she was not reading comics, she would be perusing the sites at the San Francisco Zoo, the De Young or the Legion of Honor museum.

Pien began producing her own minicomics in 1997, such stories as LONG TAIL KITTY, MR. BOOMBHA and STORIES FROM THE WARD. She received the Friends of Lulu Kim Yale award for LONG TAIL KITTY and the Harvey award for her coloring work on Printz winner AMERICAN BORN CHINESE (also the first graphic novel to be nominated for the National Book Award). Her work is frequently exhibited in galleries and the San Francisco Cartoon Art Museum.

How does Lark Pien get her work done? By taking walks, baking cakes + pies, going late night star gazing, eating half-pound burgers, burning the calories off on Wii Fit. Having fun does wonders for her story writing!
