Douglas Wood

Douglas Wood has been called Minnesota’s renaissance man. He is an author, artist, musician, naturalist, and wilderness guide who has created thirty-five books for adults and children, with more than two and a half million copies in print. His first book, Old Turtle, was hailed as a profound work and an instant classic. It has been translated widely and received many honors. His other books are also award winners and New York Times bestsellers, including Grandad’s Prayers of the Earth and his humorous Can’t Do series. He is also the author of the widely anticipated Old Turtle: Questions of the Heart and the memoir Deep Woods, Wild Waters. He has performed and read his books at the White House, Lincoln Center, and many other extraordinary venues across the country. He is the recipient of many honors and awards, including an American Booksellers Book of the Year Award, an International Reading Association Book of the Year Award, a Christopher Award, a Parent’s Choice Award, a Barnes and Noble Star of the North, a Storytelling World Award, a Midwest Book Award, a Smithsonian Notable Book for Children, a Minnesota Book Award, a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant for Prose, the Central Minnesota Arts Board/McKnight Established Artist Award, and the Minnesota Association for Environmental Education Lifetime Achievement Award. Douglas Wood lives with his family in a log cabin in the pines by the Mississippi River.
