Editor
Candlewick Press seeks an experienced Editor to join our talented team. The position of Editor for the MIT Kids and MITeen imprints requires an interest in STEM topics, experience with nonfiction for children and young adults, and a minimum of six years of editorial experience working on books. The editor will work autonomously on titles in the pipeline for the imprint under the supervision of the Senior Executive Editor, including communicating and collaborating with authors and coordinating with copyediting, design, and production as the book is developed. A knowledge of, and comfort with, the interaction of text and illustration is preferred. The editor must be comfortable advocating for new titles, including introducing the books to the marketing, foreign rights, and sales teams. Responsibilities include editing 8-12 titles a year; handling select projects from first editorial letter through publication; interacting with the design department as books develop to review and comment on all stages; reading and reporting on submissions to determine if they are viable for the imprints; reviewing materials submitted from MIT; participating in development meetings with authors on select projects; reviewing circs of all stages of pages in conjunction with the head of the imprint; preparing and delivering sales conference presentations; and attending relevant meetings.

Additional Skills and Experience:
- A knowledge of the market for STEM books for children
- Experience working with design and layout of books for children
- Comfort working with scientists and experts in given STEM fields
- Exceptional English language skills (proofreading, spelling, grammar)
- Familiarity with contract terms
- Ability to work within deadlines
- Proven communication, writing, and collaboration skills
- Extremely organized, detail-orientated, and able to multi-task and prioritize
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- A strong interest in STEM topics and children's books is preferred
