Spanish Language Editor
Candlewick Press seeks an experienced Spanish Language Editor to join our talented team. This role is responsible for shepherding our growing list of award-winning children's books in Spanish for the North American market.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Edit Spanish language titles, featuring a mix of translations of backlist titles and simultaneous publication of front list titles. - Majority of the list is picture books, but can also include chapter books, middle grade, and YA titles
- Hire translators and/or work with bilingual authors on translating their own texts.
- Evaluate and edit Spanish translations, working with both the translator and the original author (if not the same)
- Work with the managing editor to evaluate and hire Spanish language copyeditors and proofreaders.
- Maintain relationships with current translators as well as seek out possible new Spanish language translators.
- Seek opportunities for simultaneous Spanish/ English language publications on the Candlewick front list.
- Evaluate the Candlewick backlist for potential additions to the Spanish language list.
- Write and/or translate Spanish language jacket and catalog copy.
- Hire translators and evaluate translations for select marketing projects in the Spanish language, such as reader's and teacher's guides.
Occasionally translate small selections of various marketing copy.
Required Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years children's book editorial experience
- Spanish language fluency
- A knowledge of the market for Spanish Language books for children and young adults
- Exceptional English language skills (proofreading, spelling, grammar)
- Ability to work within deadlines
- Proven communication, writing, and collaboration skills
- Extremely organized, detail-orientated, and able to multi-task and prioritize
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
This is a full-time position based in our Somerville, MA office (hybrid work arrangements will be available for eligible roles).
