Graphic Production Assistant

Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA seeks a Graphic Production Assistant. Reporting to the Senior Graphic Production Specialist, this position will provide support to the Graphic Production team, covering a wide array of exciting projects. Following Candlewick aesthetic styles and standards, the Graphic Production Assistant will assist with; reprints, inputting text changes, Preflight/PDF Creation/Postflight of final files for print, color-correction, and Hi-Rez Photoshop projects.

Duties also include:

• retrieve and prepare archive assets for various reuse needs

• create special effect plates for print (i.e. Spot-Gloss, Emboss, Foil-Stamp, etc.)

• generate and update barcodes

• fulfill file and PDF requests

• assist with creating and updating training and workflow documentation

This is not a design position. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for typography and book design, while having a stronger interest in prepress and digital production. A love of children’s books is a plus.

Experience:

Ideal candidate will have experience working with industry standard Adobe software, an understanding of various printing processes, and color theory.

Typesetting experience and understanding of proofreading marks is a plus.

Skills:

Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro.

Candidate must be very detail oriented and work well under pressure.

Good communication, time management, and organizational skills a must.
